    What kind of wire, insulation and build did Fender use in the 50s and 60s on P-Bass pickups?

    Also, what's the point of the brass baseplates on some versions...and do any vendors sell them?

    These work well and are made from plain enamel wire.

        The notes I have say it's formvar, but I've seen PE too.

        The brass plate is for grounding/shielding. I'm not sure it's needed.

        Here's the ground plate:
