  • What are these?

    Here's the link

I know they are not from the "mid 1900's" and un-likely to be Gibson. There is something about lucite encased pickups but I can't recall.

    Marauder....

They are Gibson Marauder pickups made by Bill Lawrence. They aren't great pickups.....
I know, I used to have 5 Marauders, all gone now....

Go to ebay and do a search on Gibson Marauder, you will find a couple, you will see that pickup in the neck, the bridge pickup is more interesting design using blades that are humbucking also in a see thru case and epoxy potted. both of those pickup types are notoriously low output, I used to always use a pedal ot get any kind of tone out of them without a pedal they are pretty wimpy......

I took apart a broken Bill Lawrence pickup one day. It was a weird unit that looked like an EMG... closed cover. Just like his other pickups it was encapsulated in what I thought was clear epoxy. It's actually polyester resin like they use for fiberglass ... I could tell from the odor!
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

Well that could have saved me a lot of work chipping it away!
