My definitive of a great pickup is one that sounds good to me!

I've found that the general music public is far less picky than most of us.
Usually if it pleases me most music store clientele love it!
Like I said before there doesn't always have to be only one choice and one right answer.

I asked my wife, but she was too busy with the ironing to explain.

We have a vacuum but it sure doesn't get much use!

You can still do things on a small scale and make a quality pickup.
We don't all have to have a CNC Machine, and all the fancy stuff to make a good home-brew pickup.
                  I do everything strictly primitive.
                  I like it that way!
My fancy tools are a soldering iron and a $10 DVM!

I'm not sure how that was your point... but I am going to make a CNC winder soon. Maybe two. I would love a CNC milling machine!

I'm currently working on 15 pickup orders, so any semi automated help is much appreciated! I'm always looking for faster and more repeatable ways to do things. I'm also making all the parts, so every little bit helps.

Yeah, you can make a quality pickup by hand, and it can take you a day or an few hours. You make less money the longer it takes you.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

Tension has allot to do with how long you need to pot a pickup .
But then again tight wind means less penetration
Don't turn it into something dIRTY i dare you LOL....LOL

I'm just getting in to winding. Just bought my first winder - Sidewinder. Anyway.....I have to get a wax pot. This crock pot looks pretty good....can use the temp probe with digital readout for temp. Also dome lid w/handle so Im sure I can rig it for for vacum fitting.

I just use a cheap crock pot i bought at walmart for 12 bucks & a thermometer
It has no temperature control just high, med,& warm & after you wax is melted the warm setting keeps the wax around 150 celsius which is just about right
but when i turn it on, i usually turn it on high & forget about it then its over 200 degrees .this crap leads to late night waiting for wax to cool down

I have the same thing and it works pretty well, though I only paid 10 for mine I believe that you ment 150 F and not 150 C though. 150 Celsius is about 300 F and though I never heated it that far I guess it would have reached it's boiling point.
