  • P90 bobbin flatwork dimensions.

I need to make a set of ebony covers for P90s for a friend and I can find lots of outside dimensions but nothing about how big the inside of the cover needs to be to fit over the works. I'd be really thankful if someone here could tell me what the proper dimensions of the flatwork is including corner radius.

    thanks,

    David

      Thanks Sock Puppet,
That should work though the 2.03" string spacing seems a lot wider than the 1.9", 50mm I've been seeing on other diagrams.
While we are at it that's the nominal diameter for the pole piece screw heads?

Well I've seen quite a few variants on p90 sizes qith a google image search. I think you'd be wise to get him to send you his old covers.

        This might be more useful:
        Greasy Groove Inc.

As for the screw heads, those mentioned with the Stewmac P90 kit are 0.192" dia.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

          Sock Puppet,
That is indeed very complete, thanks! It turns out that the pickups are Kinmans so they look just like the Greasy groove covers you linked to. The difference between them and the Gibsons (other stand pole spacing) is the corner radius which is 5.5mm instead of 7 mm.

I think I have a solidworks model of a P-90 cover at home. If you want it i'll send it to you

              Belwar,
That would be cool, I think I can open that in PS as PDF or illustrator if it's a DWG/DXF.
Thanks! I take it you modeled it on the Gibçon original?

So as it turned out the Kinman coils are likely a lot larger than the typical P-90 coil. My covers were off the mark by a considerable amount. I suspect this is a result of the thick laminated steel magnetic guides/shielding that surround the upper coil. I was able to thin the covers to .075" and get it all together. That made the interior dimensions 3.228 x 1.224.
