  • Im looking for oversized humbucker rings

    Hey all,

I've got a project requiring a slightly oversized humbucker ring. The standard allparts ones are 1.756" across and i'm looking for some that are bigger. 1.8-1.85 would be perfect. Are vintage rings any bigger? Is anyone away of oversized rings available?

    Why not CNC them?
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

1.8 and 1.835 sound familiar. I've measured a lot of them. Try Seymour. The problem with going wider is that you also need to go longer if you still want your standard screw locations in the corners to have even set-back.

Seymour Duncan Trembuckers are wider than normal p'ups.

I've found out the hard way when I bought one cover for a vintage p'up that had a 52mm polepieces' spread, that was NOT a Duncan Trembucker.

Assuming things is never a good thing...

Göldo's rings are all 44.6 which is 1.784".
I measured the SD ring I have and it's only 1.774".
The widest I've seen is from an old Ibanez 335 copy, it was 1.840 but had 3 holes for leveling the pickup.

Thats exactly what im looking for - 1.84-1.85. Aparently there were some used on old flying V's as well - but with one hole and in cream.

I bought a nice piece of cream plastic and am going to try and machine a set. I've done it before from aluminium and it turned out pretty good - and those were more difficult because I CNC'd the curve into the bottom.

                Bel,
If you just need a couple I can mill them out pretty quick as I'm all set up for them. If maple will work I've got stacks of those at the moment.
