  • Sources For AWG 28 6 & 8 Conductor Wire?

    Hi Gang,

Just wondering if anyone might have a source or two to get my hands
on some AWG 28-Ga 6-Conductor and 8-Conductor Shielded stranded
wire? I really like the Mojo 4-Conductor, would like to find a source of
same but for 6 and 8 conductor as well.

    Thanks for any help,
    Patrick

Might want to try contacting Peavey Parts Dept.
They use a (I think) 6 conductor on there footswitches.

OK, thanks. I will check in with them and see what they might have.

        Patrick,
If you need the wire in quantity your could buy direct from an electronics supplier like Mouser. Minimum buys are 100 foot spools.
There is a neat cable selector tool at Multi-Conductor Cable
Searching for 6 conductor #28 shielded yields 6 matches as shown at Multi-Conductor Cable
        Regards,
        Tom

Thanks Tom, that's a nice little setup they have there at their website.
I think this will take care of it for sure, thank you!

I've used Cat-5 cable for projects.
It's a 4 pair cable. You can get it in different colors.
Mostly blue. I've also used grey, red, and green.
            It readily available for networking.

              Hi Terry,

I thought about that too, but isn't Cat-5 solid copper
wire? Do they sell it in a stranded version?

OK, I just did a search and it does appear that it is sold
as either solid or stranded, so maybe this might be a good
choice, and it is a bit cheaper. I guess I will have to look
                into this as well.

                Thanks,
                Patrick

Note that Cat 5 computer network cable does not have a shield. Just 4 twisted pairs.

                    Yes most is solid.
I've used a lot of solid wire for different projects.
I did Communications for 42 years, have a lot of that surplus.
Unless you are actually doing something to flex the cable, solid is no big deal.
                    Probably not politically correct though.
I like anything better than the PAF single push back wire with exposed ground.
If I had to use nothing but that I would quit!
Its noisey and IMHO a pain in the A$$ to work with.
That wire on the site was too rich for my blood, I would come up with an alternate source and type!
                    Good luck,
                    Terry

Bartolini has 6 conductor stranded, shielded cable that they ship with some of their pickups so it does exist.
I have some solid 24awg, Cat 5 cable that is shielded, I thought is was all shielded.

Most Cat 5 and cat 6 is unshielded.
It has a tight twisted pair that helps on networking noise.
The Cat6 has a special spiraled devider that makes it for higher freq. applications.
I have used a lot of it that is shielded.
The shielded requires a special RJP45 connector and a specialized crimper if you are using it for networking.
I have a 2 wire with ground that is 22 gauge that I use on my own stuff.
I use all the scrap and cheap stuff when I'm protoTyping, just trying new ideas.
When I get things nearly perfected, I go to the good bought stuff.
I use the Mojo 28 gauge 4wire with grd for the stuff I sell.
In a guitar if you are connecting to a 42 gauge coated solid wire, I figured the 24 ga. solid would probably be ok!
                        Later,

I use Mogami 4+shield from Marshall Electronics in LA. Nice stuff. They might have it with more conductors.

Funny, I use this type of wire almost exclusively...

Big_Tee and David, why do you think's bad?

And what do you use that's better and why?
