    info

most are wound from 10-11K, I think probably 44 gauge wire. the top bobbin is paper so its best to use a tailstock winder and clamp down the top, either that or you have to wind pretty loose or the paper flares out. They can be a bitch to rewind sometimes. They usually have rubber magnets inside.

How about instead of can be a bitch to rewind, lets just say they are a real bitch to do. Possum is correct, tension is everything if you cant or don't clamp down the top.

Rickenbacker uses a big rubber magnet for the treble pickup on the 4001/4003 basses. I've always wondered why.

I love those gold foil pickups. I had an old Silvertone with a set. One was dead though. Wish I kept that guitar. When I got married the wife was complaining about too many old guitars around! Next time I marry a musician!
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

Is it too late to send the wife to guitar school?

              .......

Not 45 AWG, what I've measured is more 43-44 and inbetween....

Alright. MAybe safe with 44 PE? Sounds like this is Ideal, as tension will be lower.

Those things sound right sporty in a bass too - big sound.
