      The other issue I've had is at the eyelets.
      Make sure there are no rough edges around the eyelets, and sand everything, and try again.
      I've also had issues with DVMs.
      I keep one in the shop and one in the house.
      There are times the one in the shop acts up.
      It will read wrong, usually reads less than what the real DCR of the pickup is.
      Usually I can replug the leads, and flip all the switches, and everything is A-OK!

        I did not mean that temperature or humidity could cause shorting under reasonable conditions. What I meant was that if you personally could survive the temperature and humidity, the coil insulation would be just fine, the implication being that the problem is not the weather.
