  • Vintage Melody maker bobbin/magnet?

    Hey folks,
Anyone have a "spare" Vintage Gibson melody maker bobbin/magnet laying about in their junk drawer that they would part with affordably? Im in need of just the bobbin/magnet. The coil can be dead, or not wound with wire.

I have a cover, but the bobbin crumbled to bits years ago. The over ain't in such great shape, either. The magnet is just a pretty standard alnico bar. Dave Hunter lists it as Alnico V.

I need the bobbin to be intact, and rewindable....sorry.

I don't know about other people's experience, but mine was that the bobbin was extremely fragile and brittle. So good luck with that.

Given that there was nothing particularly distinctive (in a positive way) about the materials the bobbin was made of, surely someone must make a contemporary equivalent?

This is true. Ive seen alot of them that are very brittle. I currently have one that is out of its cover, and the bobbin is Intact, and still very usable, not brittle at all. I am in need of one more. Unfortunately I have found no modern equivalent to this bobbin, I think its odd size has something to do with it. If yours was merely cracked, or missing a small piece, i could repair it, but....still looking.
