  • wiping down bobbins

    Hi All,

What do you guys use to clean HB bobbins after potting that won't leave fine scratches and swirl marks? I've used everything from t-shirts to lense cloths and I still get scratches

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Are these scratches or streaks?

        Stan,

        Pardon my spam.

I use my microfiber Guitar Care Cloths. Microfiber won't leave micro scratches and is unsurpassed in terms of absorbing/picking up material from the surface.

If you go with microfiber, go with a cloth that has a plush texture like terry cloth.... because there is different types of weaves (suede-like, waffle weave, etc...)

Microfiber is awesome in terms of cleaning ability and being safe on the finish. It actually attracts and holds the materail you're removing.

Avoid t-shirts and baby diapers. Flat weave materials tend to have a coarse texture and can scratch.

I've picked up three-packs of the yellow microfiber cloths at the local grocery-store (cleaning aisle) as well. They work great.

Here's the best advice you can have so feel free to come up with alternative outlandish and preposterous ideas :

Baby wipes. These are readily available and superb for removing warm wax just after potting. They are cheap to buy too and let's face it, have to be gentle enough for cleaning up babies butts.

ASS PAPER. Inventive.....Got plenty of baby wipes too. Someone also mentioned windshield polish in another post to cover scratches, in case you missed it(stan).

+1 for baby wipes dude.....sounds logical and perfect. Charmin leaves lil white lint everywhere. I may try some windshield repair to fill or cover up the scratches

Facial tissue and isopropyl alcohol will take finger prints and such off without scratching. For tape residue, spit is a good solvent again using facial tissue. Lint can be a bit of an issue depending on the tissue, but that can be removed with cloth.

Can't think of the name of the blue/white speckled lint free cloths that I use - shop cloths that you can buy by the box. They deploy from the box the same as the facial tissue. They don't scratch either, and they last a good while.
