  • Got a buttload of magnets here to share

Looked through the Faq's, dont think I'm breaking the rules.

I have mags for strat and tele stuff both a3 and a5, .195 and .187. Just pm me if you want to buy some - I ordered too many.

A 'buttload', you say? Would that make them mostly A5s?

Probably bigA5s - too dirty for my rig.

I'm assuming when you say "magnets", these are actually unmagnetized polepieces that could be easily shipped in an envelope?

Mark, you might want to differentiate between unmagnetized magnets and pole pieces which to my way of thinking are not alloyed to be magnets themselves, but serve to work with magnets to shape a magnetic circuit.

Strat and Tele magnets are not pole pieces in this definition.

Slugs, screws, and the chunk of steel through which screws may be threaded in humbuckers are pole pieces.

Looks to me like these are actual magnets.

And if it's literally a butt load, then we should ask that they be sterilized before shipping...

These must be for pickups designed to go down to the brown note...

              lol you guys are great

Yes they are a buttload, i/e for the Brownie tone(har). These are magnets from Shea at magnetic hold.

              I have alnico 5 and alnico 3 in .187 and .195 diameters. .187" x .625/656/688/720 for a3 and 5, and I have just .195"x625" in a3 and a5 with a few 656's in that diameter.

              These are unmagnetized alnico magnets.

A tree falls in the forest. No ears hear. Was there sound?

An Alnico alloy is unmagnetized. Is it a magnet? Or is it merely the potential of a magnet?

Grasshopper, when you know the deeper answers to these questions, you'll be ready to ask the next question...

And as was said over and over again in the Dick Tracy comics, "He who rules magnetism rules the world."

                    This is an important.

A buttload is distinct from a metric buttload (a 50% lesser quantity) or the still smaller "shitload".

The English Language is replete with such distinctions.

While Achase4U's announcement of a buttload of magnets generated interest, had it been a metric buttload, fewer would have responded, and a shitload of magnets would cause scarcely a ripple.
"Det var helt Texas" is written Nowegian meaning "that's totally Texas." When spoken, it means "that's crazy."

So I am given to wonder if there is somethng like a "pickup-maker's buttload" that might be in some way comparable to a "baker's dozen"?

Of course, here in Canada, when we went metric and it was all about the millibuttload ("mbl"), decibuttload ("dbl"), and centibuttload ("cbl"), there was an avalanche of angry letters to the editor, as you can well imagine. I dunno, people just have a hard time with change, even when it improves measurement. Mind you, there were some very cogent arguments presented, as I recall, about why the "nanobuttload" ("nbl") and "microbuttload" ("ubl") were not really, and should not be, considered valid units of measurement. People just felt they were kind of an oxymoron, like military intelligence, government efficiency, and responsible drummers.

A butt is a proper unit of measure, equivalent to 108 Imperial gallons, or 129.6 US gallons. That's a lot of magnets.

A cookie for all those that got it. And Salvarsan, I believe your comments to be measurism. You will be dealt with summarily in a Swiss court.

By the way, chase, I hope you are able to sell your mags to your satisfaction.

                              *sigh*

How quickly a discussion of pickup magnets turns theological.
