  • DeArmond/Rowe pickup

I have a vintage pickup that needs rewound maybe? The bridge pickup resistance tested at near 1meg. The neck pickup that works tested at 7k. It looks like the pickup cover is riveted on! How do I go about getting the cover off to rewind the pickup?

If you are very careful and I have done it several times you can straighten the bell out on the underside of the rivets and draw them out and do your rewind. I usually replace them them but have in the past managed to use the old rivets as they are hard to find and tap them into a flare again. Bit of patience is all it takes. Make sure if you do manage to get the rivet out intact that there are no sharp edges when you put it back or you will rip the inner coil. I would suggest that even though the top plate is very stiff material that you sandwich the face of the bobbin with a small piece of ply or masonite to stop any flareing of the bobbin. 43awg should get you to a similar reading.
