  • Magnetizing Ceramic 8

I thinking about buying some larger sized blocks of uncharged ceramic magnets ,& cutting them to smaller pickup sized magnets with my wet tile saw
My question is can i charge C8 magnets with some strong neo magnets ?
not the stew mac magnets ,
i have a bunch of these

if you've got some charged ceramic mags lying around, try flipping the polarity with those monster neos. if it flips they should be able to charge a blank.

      You can I've done it.
I've taken Ceramics and discharge them, then charge them back to about 3/4 Charge.
In a Humbucker that takes that abrasive bite off, but is still them crisp and clear.

I've never been able to get them to a full charge using neos however.

I buy all my ceramics magnetized. It also saves time when assembling pickups.

I have tried degaussing ceramic magnets down to nothing ,using neo magnets & had very little luck
I do have David Gingery's book on How to build a Magneto Magnetizer ,& the 2 6LB spools of awg 18 won't be cheap

I'd love to know more about the magneto charger. I see big spools of fat copper on ebay all the time going for what seems like scrap prices.

If I were going to try charging C8 with neos I'd get the stronger, N 50 blocks and stack them up. In fact I'd probably get the keystone shaped neos from generators and build a full circle loop with a gap. I think I figured out you could get a field strength of about 22,000 Gauss that way. The coercivity of alnico is orders of magnitude lower than for Ceramic-8. I can't see to find exact data on the Joules needed to bring a Ceramic-8 up to saturation, that would be handy.
