  • harmony stratotone dearmond problem

I have a stratotone with the hershey type pickup. Pickup works but intermittently cuts out. I have traced the problem to the cover which is slightly loose. If I move the cover the pickup works but it wont stay that way.
I tried a tiny bit of superglue under 2 corners to keep it in a working position but that worked only for a while.
I am wondering if the problem has more to it and that there is something wrong in the pick up itself. Maybe this is a common problem?
    Thanks for any help.

The cover doesn't produce any sound, so the problem is with the pickup. The cover must be holding a bad connection in place.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

Yeah, Im also wondering if its doing the opposite, as in when it moves its disturbing the connection.

I havent got any experience with fixing pickups so any help would be appreciated.
I have read that it is possible to remove and reuse the rivets that hold the cover on.
Would it be worth investigating to see if its something obvious wrong, or is it inadvisable to open these up.
        Thanks

The coil ground lead is to the corner of the baseplate and may be suspect. Also the rivets pass through slots in the ends of the magnets very close to the inner part of the coil and may be a problem there. Best to carefully remove and have a look. The rivets with care can be used again but make sure they are squeezed well in before you remove them or you will cut the coil and maybe you can reflare them afterwards. If not then drill the center of the rivet underneath and screw up into the rivet to hold them down again.

Thanks Jonson. That fits, as moving the bottom edge of the cover (in playing position) fixes/causes the problem. Ill carefully investigate and if I need some more help Ill post again.
            Thanks all.
