yeah good point, this stuff sure isn't nickel silver. I suspect its closer to regular brass. Michael said he is looking for another supplier because the vendor for these baseplates refuses to acknowledge there is a problem with the material; reading between the lines it probably means their metal supplier is pulling a fast one to increase profits. Alot of you guys have checked out various suppliers in Korea etc. but no one has found good nickel silver baseplates done right, so I don't think Michael is going to find a good product to sell unless they make their own, I as much told him that. Time will tell, meanwhile I'm not buying those anymore.

I have been digging around for some baseplates myself. I found this place Discount Guitar and Bass Parts, has the Allparts bases listed for $7.50 each, the best price I have found so far. I inquired to see if that price is current and am waiting for a reply.

That's about the best price you're going to find because it is essentially cost. List is 14 bucks.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking. It has been 13 or so years since I was an Allparts dealer, they did grant additional price breaks, but it was like 50+10 for quantity..along those lines. That is why I want to see if this price is current before I order.

Montreaux has them for alot cheaper than that but you're going to pay $40 shipping no matter what, so you have to buy alot of them to get the unit price down, they are the same baseplates.....

If the break is only about $2 each, for me it isn't worth the hassle. I would need to buy 20 just to offset the $40 minimum shipping. If it is greater than $2 savings, then it would be worth it.

The place I mentioned above says they are out of stock, but AllParts is nearby, they can have them within 24 hours. I am just going to buy a couple and see how it goes. I will let you guys know. I know it is still steep, but it seems to be the best domestic/non wholesale price thus far. It can get some of us out of our binds and get projects rolling until other sources get things straightened out.

I;'m the guy that linked StewMac with Keiyo.
And StewMac screwed you over more or less....

OK, so tonite I rewound a neck PAF I was having a problem with at 8K, it should be nice and clear but had a weird midrange bump that sounded awful. I only took off 250 winds down to 7.8K but this time I used an AllParts plate instead of the mystery metal Mojo and voila! Totally clear bright metallic tones back where they always were. Crap, I have a whole bag of these plates and they won't take them back....
Do they guarantee a certain metal content on their baseplates? Sounds like they aren't what was advertised so they could be accused of false advertising. Maybe you can sell them on ebay cheap to some of the ebay hordes.....

Try the Mojotone.com ones. Seven bucks and are very good, specially the short-legged ones.
