Bright and ice picky are two different things.

But either way, that's what tone controls are for.

That's why there are all different kinds of magnets, and different size CaPs and PoTs.
Really the big bearing on brightness is the wood and the individual guitar.
I have a LP that you can't put enough Cap, or tone the bridge P/U down enough.
It's just that individual Guitar. The Neck sounds like Heaven, the Bridge Not so Much!

That's what Les Pauls are supposed to sound like. The bridge pickup is not supposed to be dark sounding.

        Could be your amp too.

I have lots of guitars it's only this one.
I like it for certain things.
I have probably changed the pickup and rebuilt it 25 times.
I have different Amps too. It sounds best on the 2204.
          Just characteristics of the wood.

cool-ness. TW, how'd you get that size mag?

Are those A5 mags? Not so good for vintage wind in my experience.
A2 more mids and roundness yes? lovely

I'm pretty sure they are A5. I got them from Guitar Jones. I'm going to try them and if I'm not happy I'll order some other parts to try. I haven't tried the pickups yet because I'm having trouble with my lacquer cure time. It still smells funky so it's not ready to polish.

Depends on what you call vintage. Vintage Firebirds used A5s. Vintage doesn't mean mellow. I do like A2s though for certain things.

Getting closer to finishing the guitar these are going in.

I started putting the pickups together. I think a light potting is a really good idea. The design of these things is just stupid!! They're so finicky to assemble just jamming everything into the cover and clamping it down...
