  • First mini bass bucker rewind.

    Well I offered up a rewind to a customer and told him I have never done one of these before. It is a HOTCH bass mini bucker. Any idea on what I should do lol. I think 43 pe would be good but any idea on the dc for this thing. I also think it is a neck pup so I will offset the screw and slug by about .5 or so.

    Any help would be great.

    What is the customer trying to get out of the pickup? You need to see where it is now and then figure out how to wind it. So does it want it brighter? deeper?

    Do you have any pictures of it? Does it even have a screw bobbin? You typically don't wind bass pickups exactly like guitar pickups.

      It has 4 pole screws and wound with poly with tons of wax. The wind itself looks pretty straight forward as in it has very little scatter to it. I unwound it about 1000 turns as one coil was dead already. He says it was a bit muddy and wanted to bring out some highs, I am thinking something with some bounce to it. Just looking to see where i should start.

      The opposite of the pole screws is a blade with a micro and I mean micro mag in it.

        See if you can get a stronger magnet in there. That will help bring out the highs. Ceramic magnets work well with bass pickups. Then try 4000 turns on each coil. I'd do 42 AWG. 43 will give a tighter low end with more mids. Don't scatter much at all, try and keep it very neat.
