You really should pick up a real counter instead of using a hacked calculator. You can get them on eBay pretty cheap.

It's Muddy or Warm. But How Do I Improve the Pickup?

It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

Is this what you mean? http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-Rotary-C...#ht_2030wt_689
I imagine it would hook up directly to the drive shaft that is holding the pickup bobbin, say with a couple of cogs.

There are discussions here on using reed switches and other ways to get the counters to work better.
I actually have a bunch of proximity switches I got when I was going to build a winder. They work when a magnet passes by them. Apparently they don't have skipping issues.
I wanted one and ended up buying the whole batch. I had been thinking of selling the rest off.It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

How much is a proximity switch worth?

Hi guys,
I'm long time lurker, I didn't do any posts here, only because here is so many competent people.
But, I enjoyed every single visit here, I like your weird sense for humor guys.
Anyway I have found that proximity switches work good only up to certain speed,
if I wanted to use maximum speed of my gear(what I usually do), it didn't work.
Good source for the switches are home alarm companies technicians, every day, they have extra switches finishing in garbage.
Happy Holidays to everybody, best regards from Ottawa
