It seems you could get pretty creative with winds without much difficulty.

Thanks Kevin, it's working out well, I can make EXACT matched coils with the dual traverse and dual bobbin units. I mean exact wind/scatter/tension paterns, turns obviously can be matched too.

I have been exprimenting with a pot connected to the linkage and some data-logging software reading voltage across the pot relative to the pulse from the optic unit, experimenting with a model R/C car servo motor having it move the linkage to the traverse unit, while being directed by a previously logged data stream, played back from a laptop.

In this way I'm hoping to be able to record a good wind pattern, and then have the laptop and winding machine kind of "play it back" and do a identical wind, seems like a good way of being able to re-create a wind ...exactly... on demand.

I'm not there yet, and I am going to have to put all this on the back burner very soon as I have orders for 3 amplifiers to be built this fall and that will take away my free experimenting time until around Christmas. Amps are my bread-n-butter and so pickups get bumped off the schedule.

I bent the sheet metal...by hand... with a 1/4" x 3" x 2ft bar, the sheet metal was cut to size, placed into my vise, then I used the "Armstrong" method to bend the metal in the same manner it would have been done in a brake (some things can just be "low-tech") it was actually quite easy.

I've never posted anything here but my opinions in threads, as I am not as active at winding as most of the members here are, I feel I should stay clear of bragging but if you feel my stuff should be there please feel free to place a link on my behalf for others benefit.

I'm gathering more parts for my 3rd winder which I hope to build this spring.

A similar kind of thing to that pictured in the link but with a CUB5 that I have which will display both turns count and winding RPM. I've got two new traverse things I'm working on, one os the drive portion of a level wind fishing reel which does a nice automatic traverse, the second is a servo driven traverse that (hopefully) will be able to reproduce a wind I've done previously.

Reading this thread has been educating, I then looked at the site that most of these posts refer to.
Their web site is full of basic spelling errors, not a great advert for a supposedly serious pickup maker. Let alone the seriously over the top claims.
We have a truth in advertising legislation in the UK that reigns in some of this type of stuff.

That is a good call. Spell checker is a must. I dare say we will have to wait to hear from Triode Rob or Don.

There are valid questions being asked that everyone would be asking themselves about these claims.

Triode Rob does ask a question, why do 52 Tele's sound so good, I don't think it is simply because of the pickups. Materials and workmanship would also account for something.

I don't know where this "pup" crap started. I used the term "P/U" in a forum once (I think TalkBass) and everyone acted like I had two heads! Well that's how I always abbreviated it. It was: "What's a 'P/U'??? We all say 'pup'". Well I all say "moron."

The other annoying this is the use of the word "build" as a noun, when saying "I'm going to start my next build" when talking about making a guitar. It might have cheeped into software lingo, but it just doesn't seem right for other things.
