What's to spell out? Don took a lot of crap in this thread from some guys that came off as real dick heads (Redhouse is right about that). If you doubt Don's talents as a winder or as a player your wrong, big time.

I didn't say anything about his winding or his playing.

Seeing as you know Don so well, ask him who sent him his first rolls of mythical, mystical tele bridge string. He may not like to admit it but he has had help from other people, most notably Jason Lollar.

As for the so-called Rosie wrap, he knows full well that I don't believe it and will never believe it until he shows he can do a repeatable pattern time after time that can be proven to be something done by this Rosie lady.

I don't go in for hype marketing because a good pickup maker doesn't need it. So surely you'd agree on the evidence of your own Don Mare pickups that he doesn't need to get into all this mythology stuff.

as far as my wind pattern I got it off a old 51 Tele and it sounded so good to me that I dedicated myself to learn it -- took 8 months to get a handle on it - its a messy beotch to wind -- seen it again on a 62 and a 64 Strat - its a strange pattern - if you ever see it -- try it - if you like it - go for it -- I did ..
simple as that -- no card tricks under my hat -- swear!
And a fellow Forumite - our very own "Possum" actually was the fellow who helped me name the lady we thought made this pattern while at Fender,,.. "Rosie" - but turns out there was no "Rosie" -- but just lately we did locate a 1964 Strat pickup set from a Fender employee named Josie -
and the pattern has matched up perfectly - so search is now on for this "Josie" --- any info??--- ~~~all we know is she did sign a 1964 Strat set and we got pics here.... Butttttt..... she would also have needed to be there in 51 too.. but I'm not seeing her mentioned in any books here yet ???? ( look around in them books ya all got- and let me know, if ya would - pretty please - see if theres been any mention of a Josie winding at Fender)

I have no issues at all with Don, I am just curious what the heck a ball of yarn wind looks like?? To me it would be extreme scatter and very random, No? Not that I am trying to wind any, haven't wound anything in a very very long time. Just curious is about all.. Good to see you Don.....

I think it's a myth myself.

No one uses a winder to wind a ball of yarn. What are you going to attach it on? Maybe they would wind a spool of yarn, but I've never seen one of those either. Maybe factories that use knitting machines use those. Although thread is a yarn, and it's wound on spools. That's a very neat wind. So that's all machine wound.

Yarn is wound into balls using a swift.

But either way, it's done like this:

So Fender might have hired women that had experience in a yarn or knitting factory, but they were very different machines. My mom used to make sequins, and those were wound onto spools, but she had no particular winding skill... just a machine operating skill.

I don't know where this "pup" crap started. I used the term "P/U" in a forum once (I think TalkBass) and everyone acted like I had two heads! Well that's how I always abbreviated it. It was: "What's a 'P/U'??? We all say 'pup'". Well I all say "moron."

The other annoying this is the use of the word "build" as a noun, when saying "I'm going to start my next build" when talking about making a guitar. It might have cheeped into software lingo, but it just doesn't seem right for other things.

Thank you David, I thought I may have been a lone voice crying in the wilderness here about the continued abuse our shared language. It is not always true that we are "two nations divided by a common language", commonly attributed to George Bernard Shaw. The casual use of such awful corruptions like "pup" and "build" is an affront.

....and let us not get started on the casual misuse of "awesome".
The Grand Canyon is probably awesome but it is not a word to be used about a guitar pickup and the amount of "killer" pickups and guitars that are available seems to be almost limitless. The English language is an infinitely flexible tool but sometimes the idiots seem to have taken over the asylum....

I looked at the MLP forum and the pickup makers use "pickup" and all the others, probably "guitar players" use "pups". There is a conclusion to be drawn there.......

I respect that you may have a sucessful business with your pickups but speaking as an English chap your web site make claims that may not be provable and uses "relaxed English". This engenders a certain caution in how your products may be viewed. |Are the descriptions provable in law? Are they as accurate as your English? The spelling on your site needs work.

"Pups" is really quite childish and we would imagine that you are a grown man, how much more effort is it to use the proper word, rather than some arcane code that the children on other web sites recognise as "groovy".
As we have pointed out "PUP" means "to be tricked into buying something that is not worth anything" or as Neil Young put it a "piece of crap".

I reiterate the word is "Pickup"....
