Wire Insulation

Could somebody explain the differences in wire insulation and why some types of insulation seem to be preferred over others (PE, Formvar, Poly, etc)? I'd like to wind a few humbuckers and some p90s, just not sure what I should use. Looks like the only option when ordering from StewMac is poly and based on other posts here, sounds like they are a bit pricey.

By the way, being a newbie, I'd like to thank everybody here for taking the time to reply to my previous posts...you guys have been a great help. Much appreciated.

Eblock I can't tell you much about differences in insulation sound or what's appropriate but you might want to check out ebay for 42 and 43 AWG magnet wire. I hear the prices are reasonable from BAEwire.
