  • This kinda makes me a little pissed off

Check out what I cut and pasted from Mr. Don Mares website. To what ends will he go to make himself look good Sheesh!!!!!!

    This From his site

    NOTE: The following Brands BELOW:
    "Are $105.00" ea
to rewind or service here ,

    *OC DUFF
    *SD DESIGNS
    *FRALIN
    *TRUE TONE
    *LOLLAR

This is only because of "one" or more,
of the following past reasons occured while servicing them here,
    * magnet slots are too loose in bobbins,
    *weak flexable bobbins ,
*poor magnet quality or incorrect specs and sizes.
*altered specs from vintage, chassis/bobbin specs...etc
    *Non Vintage style Base Plates

What has happened is that in the past we end up,
rebuilding them, totally from scratch,Usally with all new parts,
and we like to call that a "NEW PICKUP", not a rewind LOL! new pickups are $105.00 each

    Uh oh....

he needs to take this shit OFF his website, he has never had one of my pickups in his shop, I know every single one of my customers and my guarantee covers any problems for life. This is against the law what he is doing because its libelous and its basically lies. This really low shit.....

Now that is friggin low. This guy just doesn't want to keep it cordial does he?

In this industry, the unspoken rule is you DON'T talk about folks in that way.... because it will end up biting you in the ass.

It is also unnessessary.....He can still say what he wants without naming specific brands.

It's called libel. Time for a starchy letter from a lawyer.

I'll remove it, only because I was worried of BS getting OUT OF CONTEXT like this
Dave is correct never was his stuff here, but what I have heard on the phone from his customers is something I'd rather not AIR...

LOOK hate me all ya want..

                    its the darn truth..

those pups required new bobbins, baseplates, magnets.. and then needed GLUED piece by piece togethere and stii even then.. they sometime warp or slip end magnets...

I've had it with those individuals pups... and basicially I am not going to do it anymore..

and I am sick of telling guys the whole story ine email replys and over the phone..

I'll tell you what nows your chance since your "PISSED OFF"

tell me how to explain this to the customers -- will ya?

nows your chance to tell me what you want me to tell them..

                    lets hear it,
and skip the freakin boing flaming attacks that go on ramped here -- talk about Slander.. read some threads here... then get back to me about slander!

FRALIN-- well heres the resurfacing problem the forbar is flexable or too rubber like .. I HATE trying to stablize the pickup... aklso the magnets move -- and no matter what I do ( Glue it like a model car - piece by piece) it bananas up even with every pole piece glued down tight... I'm sure he can put them together without a problem at his shop.. they're his and he has production set up and its all good..

look at Bardens .. try to rewind one of those...
its cool to make things your own way and produce them to your needs,,,

just some pups can take a rewind without hassles or needing parts and some cannot..

I was sick of emails and phone explinaing to customer about these things and I felt I would curb it at the starting gate,
If you take it the wrong way and put words in my mouth..

then I guess i should take your side.. and admit I F-uped and I'm sorry.. but that was in no way my intent... it was only up for a few days.. its down now,,

peace out, sorry If I pissed anyone off.. it was not my intentions..

just flustrated, and sick and tired,

                    late

What is left after that? On vintage fender pickup all you have are magnets forbon and wire. If you are replacing the magnets and the forbon then how is it anybodies fault but your own if they are coming aparts when you are done? I don't get it.

I don't see the text you posted above on this page. Did he modify the page? If so, then he's basically saying the same thing in the more diplomatic way it seems.
                        int main(void) {return 0;} /* no bugs, lean, portable & scalable... */

when I get done like you explained they don't fall apart obviously..
they fall apart or warp.. because I did not change the part..OK,

                            and so----

I do not want to put parts on them, for one its faster to build a new pup from the get go..

number two just because it does not take a rewind well does not mean that the factorydid not put them together straight and tight.. obviously they did..

I'm not afforded the luxury of building production fixtures..etc. and developing methods to rewind ever pickup under the sun.. or can I make fixures I'll only use every so often if ever again.. but the original maker surely can because hes going to run lots of them..

like I said once I put new parts on them, I _LIKE_ to call that a new pickup..Not a rewind ... I don't want to accept pickups that require me to change bobbins magnets or baseplates out,
Problem is they sent them here with a payment... I try to rebuild it to reach these tones I'm after.. and inorder to do this... parts have to be just so--

the customers are trying to achive one thing, and thats saving money and trying to cop one of my models signiture tones..

If the rewinds not going to give me those tones, then its not of use or is it something I want revied on harmony-Central with my models name all over it.

I'm not just saving or rewinding a pup here... I'm cutting up perfectially good pups to try to apply these tones I have develop too.. rarely are they ever broken..

and the names that come here for rewind are pretty increadible pups on their own merits.. the ebay value would pay for a new pup here and then some on those top-botique ones.. yet I am paid to cut up big name pups... thats a compliment in itself.. and something thats true and happens. and I know why.. and it not because I'm the smartest guy in the world or none of that-- I followed my passion.. and it's paid off..
Let's all Close shop and Go Fishing!, the heck with everything today!
