It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein
The spacing can be what ever you want it to be, but I guess it's the regular height of a Strat bobbin, with a spacer.
Another thing you can do is use two sets of shorter magnets, and then place a steel plate between the top and bottom coils. Some of the newer designs are like that, like the Fender noiseless pickups. Or don't use magnets in the bottom coil, and use steel rods in place.
Have you looked at the patent (4524667) for the Duncan stack? He has some alternative ways to put it together. The ones with the blades uses steel on top and bottom of the bar magnet. You could probably do something similar with steel rods and rod magnets.
I used to have a set of these back in the 90s and they sounded very good. I did some experimenting with stacked pickups. They cancel some low end, so they sound very bright and clean and have slightly lower output. So they tend to be wound on the hot side to compensate. I wound a tele stack to about 14k and it sounded like a vintage tele, and not the slightly hotter tone I was expecting. Some of the stacks get wound to about 23k, but I suspect that's also because they are using thinner wire.
I built mine with a blade that passed through both coils and had two ceramic magnets on the bottom like a P-90.

I spoke with Tom at mojotone and he seemed to think around .680 rod length or so, I'll need to do some research anyways, the customer has a SD stack so I can also get actual measurements from it too.
Bill, I have an old Duncan stacked single somewhere around here in pieces. The pickup is complete except for the cover. If I recall, the poles are staggered. If you still need measurements let me know and I'll dig it out for you.

*EDIT* I just noticed you were looking for Tele specs. The one I have is for a Strat.
