For those of you who dared make single-string coils, I've a very simple question. Once you have a wound coil with a start and end, no breaks, rather reasonably flat layers, how do you terminate the wires? I already plan on mounting them coils on a FR4 baseplate with pre-drilled pickup holes (and traces for series/parallel/flexible wiring), but how do I make sure I get the ends don't get broken?

Eyelets on single-string coils?

I don't use eyelets on single string coils. I use 1" hookup wires.
Thats how the Wal pickups are made too. The hookup wires solder to the circuit board the coils are sitting on.It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

Thanks, David. I'll give that method a shot, then.Pickup prototype checklist: [x] FR4 [x] Cu AWG 42 [x] Neo magnets [x] Willpower [ ] Time - Winding suspended due to exams.

On the latest few I've taped the coils so that there's some slack in the wires in case the wire brokes. Then I've made a base plate with eylets, wired the coils to the base plate and soldered the wires to the eylets. Then wax potting. Has worked fine so far. Saves quite a lot time when I don't need to solder the hookup wires.

It's fiber board that's used for bobbins, I guess it is forbon. I use electric scroll saw and sanding disc for shaping. The bobbin plates are turned in drill press from same fiber board. I'm thinking about making the base plate out of circuit board material. I could etch the contacts and get rid of eyelets and save some more time.
