I don't have a link off-hand but do a search (here) it's been discussed before.

Sometimes the search function is not that productive unless you remember something else about the posts, so here is one link

But also test guitars has been discussed in one of the daily rundown threads. That thread is kind of huge. You would have to search inside that thread to find it: Look inside this thread in and around post #570 or so for some photos of some folks test mules as part of another discussion.

How many guitars do you need? Just one more.

        hi "Durrant Pickup"
My advice is if you really want to hear the sound of the pickups, (not just to see if they work)
dont use this type guitars because of the difference in the acoustics of the guitar would be great,
If the problem is the solder you can use fast connections like Seymour Duncan EMG and other
Liberator - change your guitar pickups using only a screwdriver

The need for a test rig is because using a real guitar for testing gets it beat up fast, specialy doing humbuckers.
(screws holes stripped, mounting rings break, scratches etc)

Anyway, watch this video, you can see the one Leo Fender used back in the day:

Also Durrant, the ampeg guitar had a cool slide-out tray system that might give you some ideas
