That explains why I was getting no reply to a question about the availability of copper plated telecaster bridge pickup baseplates. It would be nice if Mojotone has someone there to cover for Tom. I have sent some emails but so far no luck. We live in hope !!

    Cheers

Tom said they have the previous guy back, which would be David Shepherd. Not sure if he's up and running yet though.

For anyone on faceBook, you can find Tom here:

          Hi Everyone,
It's me David Shepherd. I am back working at Mojo for 3 days a week right now. I still run my own repair shop 3 days a week as well so my time is very concentrated at both places. If anyone needs immediate assistance with questions or concerns, I urge that you contact sales@mojotone.com. If they are unable to help you then they will forward you over to me and I will do my best to help. It's good to be back and I look forward to making Mojotone the absolute best it can be for everyone, and believe me I am working very hard to make that happen. Thanks!

When I placed my order there was no priority mail listed. I'll check it again, I could have made a mistake but I searched everywhere and it was just gone. Maybe my complaint to Vanessa got heard? Vanessa kicks ass, luv her. I had no idea Tom was gone! My last communication with Tom wasn't that long ago and he told me they weren't going to fix their pricey humbucker plates with the soft bend angle.

Sadly the Republican agenda is to get rid of the Postal Service, they wrote a law a couple years ago that the postal service has to fund their pensions 100% for SEVENTY FIVE YEARS IN THE FUTURE; that means they have to stash billions and billions of dollars, its just not possible. So, any profits they make go into that fund, then they are publicly branded as a business "failure," because they can't meet the demands of that law. The agenda is to destroy them so that it will leave a hole for big business to privatize those services to fill the gap. You know what that means, high shipping prices and crappy service like FedX and UPS deliver. The general public doesn't know about this problem and I doubt the postal service can be saved, unless there is a public outcry. There ARE people trying to wake people up and building petitions to make a political impact, start here: Save the Post Office | Closures, Consolidations, Suspensions: Stories, Analysis, Opinion

Welcome back David Shepherd! You were MISSED! ;-)

The USPS was established to fulfill a very specific function. Getting printed matter out to the electorate so that they would be "informed". (Some irony there...) By law the USPS is supposed to run like any business. It must remain profitable but it can't when our elected officials ALSO control postal rates, keeping them artificially low to benefit us.
The fundamental problem is that first class mail volume has dropped dramatically as we all migrate to paperless billing and on-line banking. The post office is needing to shrink it's payroll and fixed expenses dramatically. They can't fire anyone -they are limited to natural attrition. Their only recourse is to close all the small-town post offices in middle America. (Guess who small-town America tends to vote for). The USPS is only profitable in large cities where scale and efficiency are the norm. We know who cities vote for so as small-town service gets worse the small-town voters will probably continue to vote against their own interests and trash the USPS for good. Whatever happens we can say that shipping will continue to get more expensive and no one selling nationally or internationally will escape. The bright side is that more LOCAL small businesses who don't need to ship will gain an advantage.
We are just shifting costs around, we lower taxes and then raise fees etc to cover. End result is the same - you get what you pay for regardless of whether you are a socialist or a libertarian.

And email! When was the last time you sent someone a letter? I remember for a short time the USPS tried to have their own email service.

I use USPS for most of my shipping.

The USPS seems to have done a good job with their priority package service.
It's not right that they are required to pre-fund their retirement and healthcare services. It would be more correct for ALL government agencies to abide by the same rules. That would shake things up and maybe get the voting public to pay attention.
In contrast to the statement made above that the USPS was subsidized, I thought they were one of the government agencies that was supposed to pay their own way.

Many people are not aware of the deep discounts that large businesses can obtain from FedEx and UPS. The average Joe has to pay full price. Therefore, individual and the small business shipping costs are rising proportionally faster than those for companies that qualify for the large account discounts.

Well, I was right, I ordered tonite and now priority mail option is back again, I was going to order from someone else, wish they had fixed it, my last order won't be here in time for what I needed it for. Glad they fixed it. I think their web guy made some goofs, I also tried to pay on Paypal same nite priority mail disappeared and paypal kept telling me Mojo was submitting a wrong address for me and they refused to pay the bill. Anyway, its all good now ;-)

Yeah, I totally agree about the UPS/FedEx vs USPS thing. Not only the speed of delivery but price too!

                        [start of rant]...

I deal with a company in NY often, they use FedEx as their standard shipping carrier ($14 for small package, takes a week) BUT I can select USPS Priority Small Box .... for $29.00 ....WTF?

I ship almost every day and I use USPS Priority Flat rate (small box) and know all-to-well that it ships for just over $5 in USA. I hate these guys that try to pocket some extra ca$h off shipping or "handling", if they want extra money just raise the goods prices, but fer F'n sake ship honestly.

USPS is sooooo easy to do, go online, pay-n-print, they supply the shipping boxes, and they even come to your door and pickup the package, at no extra cost, how can guys charge $29 for a $5 package in good concience. Yeah I know, I should find the part elsewhere but that's just it, I can't.

                        ...[end of rant]

Actually, David was a lot more responsive to special orders/needs. I always felt Tom was "competing" with other winders, in a way. David would go out of his way (at least for me) to seek out sources and provide options for special orders.

Tom sourced a lot of new parts while he was there.
He worked on getting the no holes covers that we all requested, and got the right parts for the mini blades.
He helped me on several issues.
Sounds like Mojo doesn't want to pay either one of them full time.
David is going to only be there half the week.
I think they needed to keep both of them.

Dave, it might be a fair thing for you to edit your thread title in light of your more recent experience, the feedback from other posters, and the explanation posted upthread from your post that I've quoted here.
