    that's my understanding as well (typically (though apparently not for everyone), you lose high-freq. response and sensitivity as you grow older and generally this is worse for men, seemingly especially around age 40). Maybe this explains in part the perception gap when people hear differences (or claim to). One of the EMG Turner guys touched on this (age related hearing loss around 40) in an interview I read some years ago in a Japanese guitar mag.

            There is no reason that women cannot join this forum, or discussion thread.
            But how many female amp techs do you know?
            There are certainly plenty of great female guitar players...that's true.
