Spraying lightly with some clear acrylic while the labels are still on the backing sheet (before applying the label to the object) will make them last much longer, but the crappy glue is still an issue.

I have some stuck on plastic parts bins, and they are at least six years old.

But I've also had similar labels that pealed off after a short time.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

Avery labels found in the office supply stores are "removable" and those are the ones that fall off most often, if one gets the "permanent" stickum labels from shipping supply stores (ie; Uline) and they will last a long time.

        Note Murphy's Law:
        - the removable ones don't come off clean when you intend to remove them.

What also works well is ordinary naptha (lighter fluid).

I hear that hair spray also works, but have never tried it.

I use water slide decals. I'll bet they only last weeks...
