  • Nickel H Gate covers

Hi guys, I've been getting nickel humbucker sized H gate 'Filtertron' style covers from a German supplier (the nice funky ones with the properly curved tops), however they are a little erratic in their delivery to say the least. I believe they are getting these shipped from the USA (they say all their nickel covers are US made) and as I'm the UK but already deal with Mojo and several other US suppliers regularly, and importing is not an issue, if I could go direct to source I could get a more reliable supply. Anybody got any ideas who's doing them?

Sadly I use those for my ordinary 'Trons' but not for my 'Specials' they are brass not nickel. I use these for the top of the range models.

A pair of my Cow-T-Ron Specials with curved top nickel covers.
While I don't think the open top in the brass design will tone suck quite as badly as a normal hb cover, it's all about customer perception ... and they want nickel!

That's why the slots are there, so help with eddy currents. It actually states that in the patent.

Those are nice looking covers. Where did you get them?

Crazyparts in Germany, trouble is the go out of stock really quickly and take ages to get in again ... they actually look even nicer in the flesh. I can see I'm going to have to blow several hundred quid to get a reasonable quantity. Apparently they are made in the US but every enquiry I make to get to the manufacturer finds a dead end. Messaged Tom at Mojo to see if they have access to a supply. Somebody's gotta make em ... Crazyparts didn't just dig up a treasure chest full

Wouldn't they have come from Tom Jones?

Wouldn't have thought so, they carry a whole range of fancy 'nickel-work' including WR covers and lots of nickel P90 options. I think they must all come from the same source.

But does he sell the covers? I wouldn't think so.

I took a good look at the TVJ's covers and they don't seem quite as large a radius as the ones from Crazy Parts. Tom won't sell them to us but perhaps he worked out a deal with Crazy Parts?

I get most of my pole screws from philadelphialuthiertools.com nice bunch of guys, They have those neat open topped Tele neck covers too ... will give em a try. I don't mind simply bulk ordering from Crazyparts ... it's just my stuff comes faster from the States than from Germany! I think they use carrier slug rather than Fedex

Found an earlier thread mentioning this place:

                        Deep Drawn Enclosures

Did anyone ever get a quote from them? If it's machining H-Gate style, then "one size fits all", at least so I would think (no extra tooling for drilling 49.2,50,52,53, etc.).

52/53mm bobbins don't sit well in my curved top covers, the slots are definitely designed for 50mm.

But if someone were getting a batch run custom made from a machine shop, couldn't they all be designed for 53, and then the 49.2,50,52s, etc would fit in as well?

This is Mr Butts' Gretsch patent? Does that mean vintage Filtertrons used brass H Gate covers?
