role of a bass plate on a pickup

Haven't posted here before, Hi all!

All other variables being equal, how would you guys describe the tonal difference between brass and nickel silver?

With covers, to my ear nickel-silver has much less of a dampening effect -- which I define as reduced treble/presence and slightly reduced overall output -- than brass.

The thickness of the cover material seems matter too in my experience.
