    In a HB pickup which coil have more indutance,measunring each one apart from baseplate and magnet (screw coil with keeper) ?

    I think Belwar might have posted some of his results way back when..

      I can only say from my own HB's with two coils HAND wound to the same pattern and turn number that the slug coils read slightly higher in inductance without the keeper.

      With the keeper they're pretty much dead matched.

      Of course this can change with the winding pattern, steel grades, etc:

        Ok i´m going to make 2 hb,one using 2 screw bobins and another one using 2 slug bobins and see what happens.
        I intend to have a smoth bassy jazzy pickup.

          I just took some readings for you. 2 identical coils, wound with 5500 turns of 43 PE on 50mm humbucker bobbins. I took the readings on the screw bobbin without the keeper, both tested on an Extech LCR:

          Slug = 5.4K DCR, 2.2H
          Screw = 5.4K DCR 2.2H

          Final pickup finished = 11K DCR and 5.3H, I tested both with and without a Nickel cover and the reading didn't change. I wanted to try it with a brass cover too but I didn't have one.

          They read the same. I actually forgot that you asked about bobbins with the keeper attached, sorry about that. Hope it's of some help though!

            Wow Davos! They must be some very thin covers. Bare nickel or plated?
            Even with bare nickel covers I get a little drop in the inductance.

            Who's covers are you using if you don't mind me asking?
            Thanks

              Preeeeety sure it was with a bare nickel cover, if it wasn't then it was a chrome plated nickel cover. Both from Mojotone. I round my readings to a decimal, which looking back now probably wasn't the best idea for the sake of accuracy. Im sure it must be dropping the inductance a little, smaller than 0.1H though, I can't hear an audiable change from that little 0.0whatever though
