  • Who hosts your website?

I want to start up a website for my guitars, pickups, and luthier supplies but don't know anything about the different web hosts. I need their prices to be low, I need to be able to stream audio from the site, and some nice site building tools would be helpful to. My question is who do you guys use for your websites? Would you recommend them to somebody else that is seting up their 1st website?

I know this isn’t really pickup related but I wanted to hear from people that have similar needs to my own so I thought this would be a good place to ask.

Theres a lot of winders in the UK I am from the US and wouldn't know who to recommend. Good luck though. And FWIW unless you are a web pro find someone who can maintain your site for you who knows what they are doing. A well maintained up to date site will impress customers more than you would think.

I got lucky and a guy saw my crappy site and offered to re-do it for free. He is or was a student in the web end of things and is trying to get his work out there, maybe look into that.

Just because I am in the UK doesn't mean I need to use a UK company to host my site. I can use a US company to host my site if that is what happens to work best.

Perhaps not worlds greatest web templates but what's important to me is their first class on line live support.

                This place is good www.startlogic.com

I run sites for a few people, including singer/songwriter Imani Coppola (remember Legend of a Cowgirl?) www.imanicoppola.net, and a few others, and they are hosted there. They are cheap too!

My guitar site is hosted there too, but I'm having domain issues with my last host, so it' down at the moment.

My wife and I are pro level web designers, we started in '95 before most of you even knew there was an internet. We lucked out in meeting a guy who had just left Apple and was starting his own ISP for his geek friends, we were shown the internet on a projection screen system one day, there really weren't any designed websites that we saw and they invited us there to see what we thought about it all and if we were interested in learning to design for the web using "gifs." What we thought was we had just seen the future and were pretty excited. (We're both graphic designers with almost 30 years of pro experience)...Both of us had been using AOL (we met online) and I had used a previous service that let you do email over the phone system, no graphics just text stuff. So with that background in mind, we use Pair.com They have been around for a long damn time, our many websites we have up never are offline ever. Pair's servers are up to date, speedy fast and can host video and audio media easily. Their prices are real good too. You kind of need to know what you are doing though and have someone do your website who knows what they are doing and how to install a pro site. It doesn't matter where you are when you have your site hosted, service is what counts....

I agree with Possum. He is a hell of a web designer. Look at his site, now thats one slick design. Too bad he doesn't have time to do one for someone else, I'd be first in line. Or does he?

Thank you for the help guys. I'm a total noob at the whole website thing so I really appreciate all the advice you guys are giving.

David, startlogic is actually one of the servers that I was thinking looked really good for a beginner such as myself. Are their startup tools really as good as they make them out to be?

I don't know how their tools are... I haven't used them. I use Adobe GoLive to construct web sites and upload them from my hard drive.

I started using them when a client already registered their domain with them, and wanted me to do the site. Then my brother needed a site so I went with them because they had a special at the time. My personal site is presently in the process of switching over to them.

So far they have perfect record of up time, and the tech support seems good.

250 gig of space, 3 domain names, a bazillion email addys, bla, bla bla, $9.95 a month.
                            Stop by my web page!
