  • question about location of guide rod

When I build my winder (bits and pieces) I placed the wire guide rod below the center of the bobin. Actually is sits about about the bottom of the bobbin if it was in a vertical position. Would this have any adverse affect on the tension? I haven't had any problems, just wondering if anybody had any suggestions or comments.

If it doesn't give you any problem, especially snagging and wire breakage issues, you place your guide rod as you please. Wherever it is comfortable for you. But nothing should stop you from experimenting by relocating it. A different place could produce a different amount of tension which could lead to something better (or worse), tone wise.
