  • Thinking of you guy's

Been very quiet on this forum again and I imagine most of you guys over the pond from me are wrapped up in electric blankets or just doing whatever to keep warm and not losing your fingers. The rest of us are thinking of you and good luck for a quick change all of you.

Here in Finland we are anxiously waiting for winter. Last year we had snow in the mid November, now it's been raining two months after that. I'm so full of this mud and rain.

Got a little freezing rain here in SW, 34F degrees.
      Nothing like the NE.
My shop is not heated or cooled, so not much happening here, but playing some on the guitars and bass.

We had temps of -26C (-15F) - colder with wind chill - last week, but that's nothing compared to the folks on the priaries, who had temps of -35C...and worse.

Since I keep my wire in the (unheated) garage, does this mean I am now able to say I have cryogenically treated my pickups?

Cryogenically treated wire?...Isn’t that the wire used in the classic late 50’s Gibson Humbuckers and Fender single coils? At least we now really know the secret! How much is the going rate for a spool of your “NOS Cryogenically Treated Wire”? I think you have a gold mine. :-))) LOL --- But seriously...stay warm, safe and healthy during this very cold weather.

That would be us. But it really wasn't that far out of the norm for us, so some people were just kind of "geez, what are you gonna do when it gets really cold".
I was certainly feeling for those of you that were getting drastic drops to temperatures you are not at all used to.

What got to me was when they said we were colder than Mars. And I thought Mars was uninhabitable. Guess all you need is a little oxygen. Not going to sign up for that one way trip though.

What I remember from my time in Edmonton, with some days less than -40C, was that:

                a) the sound the snow makes has only one equivalent: the sound made by those "old school" amalgam fillings as the dentist pushed them into your tooth;
                b) if your front seat feels like it is made from 1" MDF when you go to start your car, then I don't care how long the block heater has been plugged in...that engine isn't turning over.

And, much like that nonsense people spout about heat, there is a limited range of when the aphorisms about "dry heat" and "dry cold" apply. Above a certain temperature, hot is hot, and below a certain temperature, cold is cold.

All of what Mark said + 3 feet of snow

A friend of mine living in B.C. (aka the "wet" coast, or Pacific Northwet for ChuckH ) likes to joke "yeah, but it's a dry rain". .

In other news, it appears hell has truly frozen over:

There is a town, about 20 minutes east of Scranton, PA, named Newfoundland, that we drove past last fall. It is not often that a Canadian will be able to see a sign on the highway that points to "Newfoundland, 1 mi" (kicking myself that I didn't manage to snag a picture as we drove past). Now, if their local power station was knocked out, then all of Newfoundland would be in the dark. How often do you see THAT happen, eh?

                      Oh yeah, right.

Then you can imagine our horror last year, awaking to find Miami had been BURIED in snow!
Miami buried in snow after Manitoba storm - Manitoba - CBC News

We're about 15 minutes from Miami, but it's about an hour's drive to Holland.

On a side note, back in '95, a Winnipeg DJ had a contest for an all expense paid trip to Miami to see the super bowl. He got fired after all the kerfuffle when the winners found out they were going on a 90 mile bus ride, and not to Florida.
