Help Identifying a pickup

Hoping someone will be able to identify this for me :

It was sold as a 1970's Japanese (possibly Ibanez), but it has no markings on the baseplate at all. Note the position of the con wire holes.

South Coil dead - North Coil measured 6.33k DCR

Sizable ceramic mag glued in place with a metal shim on one side.

Adjustable slugs appear to be glued into place, no thread marks in the bobbin of the slugs that fell out.

Appears wound with what appears to be formvar (it's more orange in colour than SPN ) probably 43 AWG as the bobbins don't appear full enough for 6.3k of 42

It looks like a DM Super Distortion, and they are around 13k, and have TradeMarked Double Creme Bobbins.
Some had the Hex screws, some had regular screws, and all had Ceramic magnets.

Not sure about the baseplate but I agree with T .
it looks like SD .There have been different size magnets iin these pickups over the years & that explains the metal spacer
also square & triangle feet on the baseplate have been used .

I don't think it's a DiMarzio, they always used a brass baseplate. Could be a Maxon or some other kind of generic humbucker.

I've seen several jap guitars from late 70s, early '80s with this kind of p'up, with both slug/screw config and the one pictured here.

6500 turns of AWG43 SPN @ 95 TPL, no scatter, per bobbin.

Nothing to write home about.

I've stripped of a few dozen layers and TPL is 20 ... be interesting to hear what it sounds like when I'm done rewinding it

I've never seen any p'up with such a low TPL... I think the lowest was 60TPL in an asian p'up from early '70s, most probably korean.

Then again, I don't wind p'ups for a living.

I think Andrew is right, and it is probably some japanese knock-off of a Super D. pickup.
It could be late 70s, but looks more 80s to me.
The baseplate is strange with the big holes nearer the center on the ends.
You really can't tell what metal it's made from.
The wire must be 44 gauge, to have that much DCR, and they are not rear full.
I would go back with 43 gauge wire in the 15-15.5k range for the pair.
And maybe A5 magnet, or just throw it all away, and start over!

It's a silver colour with rust marks and the magnet sticks to it, solid not plated ... steel ?

Well spotted T, the Outer diameter of wire comes in 0.053 mm which is much closer to 44 than 43.

Yes it does .
I'm curious what Turns per layer was used on A Super distortortion pickup .....Anyone ever rewind one ?

I have rewind one coil of a real old SD but unfortunately I cannot find my notes... sorry.
