Has anyone tried vibratory deburring on these? You can get a little deburrer from Harbor Freight:
5 Lb. Metal Vibrator / Tumbler
They also have a larger one:
18 Lb. Vibratory Bowl w/ Liquid Drain Hose
You just let these things run for a day or two and your parts come out looking like someone slaved over every square millimeter with a polishing cloth.

Hi Jgundry
Regarding your comments I must add that stewmac although a bit more expensive manage to deliver the plates in a reasonable condition for whatever reason that may be. So it seems to be possible.
Cheers

The only way to get a pristine baseplate is to clean each one individually off the press and then individually wrapped them on the spot. This brings the cost way, way, way up which is why nobody does it for baseplates. Most stamped parts that are to have a final metal finish for display are ground or ground and buffed or roto finished after they are stamped.Last edited by the great waldo; 04-27-2014, 07:28 AM.

Still - why the funky look???
David???
It's the bottom of the pickup. Who's going to see it when it's in the guitar? I doubt anyone would care.It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

OK, but I think there's better things to worry about than if your pickup looks like a faithful copy of someone else's pickup. I'm sure you don't do that with your guitars, right? It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

What's wrong with having a nice looking baseplate on a nice looking guitar? I probably spend as much time perfecting areas on my instruments that will never see the light of day as I do on the visible. I don't give a rat's ass what anyone else thinks is important or not. To me it's all important, just don't ask me to explain it.

Hi David
I think the point is that if a customer buys a new pickup from me I expect it to look new and not scratched up (unless they want some kind of relicing job done on it) I'm sure you would not let one of the instruments that you make go out to a customer with half finished sanding marks or dents in the finish. In the same way I would expect Mojotone to be able to supply me with parts that are unmarked or at least protected in some way. Their humbucker covers are supplied with protection foil and in individual plastic bags, why not the same for the baseplates ? Stewmac manage it ! Chucking 30 metal baseplates with sharp edges into a plastic bag is not my idea of good shipping, might as well put them into a paper envelope and see what arrives at my end after a transatlantic crossing !!
Cheers

I wasn't talking about scratched up.

Just got some dogear P90 frames, and they seem to be coated with something that acetone and MEK won't touch. Real shiny and slick like a lacquer, but solder sticks so it looks like I won't have to sand an area to ground to.
Now on the other hand I have gotten scratched plastic covers from Mojo, and tarnished nickel covers from WD Music.
