The V pickups were another of Bill Lawrence's fantastic disaster pickups. I can't actually think of any good sounding pickups he designed for Gibson's guitars, now I think of it. I still have those NOS V pickups wrapped up, brand new. Its sad too, as that guitar was a real beauty in my opinion, but 2 coils around ceramic magnets angled like that is just asking for trouble. Some very "cool" pickup designs are technically amazing, but sonically hard to live with.
