Yes, exactly, when you connect to the coil "start", you have nearly all of the pickup impedance in series with the measurement of the shield to coil capacitance, but if you connect to the coil "finish", you have very little of it. So in the first case you see a parallel resonant circuit almost like that of the coil inductance and capacitance in series with a capacitance similar to that of the shield and the outer layer of wire replaced by a sheet conductor. Not exactly, but a pretty good approximation.
