  • 54mm bobbins?

I guess I already know the answer, but here I go: Does anyone know of a source for 54mm bobbins? I have looked around quite a bit, but without success. Don't really want to keep making the bobbins myself and 53mm won't fit...

    Its for WRHBs...

I've never seen any except associated with Fender Wide Range humbuckers.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

I also need some at 54mm spacing. Not one or two, but hundreds. Hell, thousands even...

With needs like that, you should contact any of the Korean parts makers, like Daeil Chemical, Sanhe, Paxphil, etc. I'm pretty sure they'll be happy to make'em for ya.

Heck, for a thousand pieces of anything, they'll do EVERYTHING to get the business, specially in these times...

And when you do that Perry, you can sell a few to me

As of now I'm trying to track down those pesky ole molded plastic tele bridge bobbins to cut them down in half, glue two of the top pieces together after sanding them to the right size. Not funny. And on top of that those bobbins also seems to have vanished from the market...

              Peter,
Have you considered making a plug and a silicone mold so you can cast your own from PU resin? It would need to be a 3 piece mold unless you were willing to drill the holes afterwards.

Yeah, I have considered that. I am reasonably familiar with the molding process as I mold pickups like this:

And I think I could get away with a two part mold and only make small divots to indicate the start of the holes. Maybe even a one part mold if I accept that I need to re-do the mold every once in a while. The silicone I use is very flexible.

However a Forum member just stepped in and very graciously offered to help me out with a handful of bobbins so the immediate need will probably be solved. A big "Thank you" goes out to basscu.

                  HTH,
Yep, thats what Im looking at doing.

These will be for a new project Im working on in the Multiscale relm. I'll have that many left over parts I'll most likely offer kits: angled base plates, bobbins, etc.

Starting to get expensive though: bobbins, base plates, keeper bars, magnets, bridge plates, saddles, etc are all needing to be manufactured in bulk.
                  Regards,
                  Perry
