Does anyone know where to find lipstick tubes? Preferably, I'd get ones sized for a strat. But in a pinch, I could manage with traditional Danelectro sized ones, and then cut them down a little.
I too am looking for these in a pickups kit or something. The parts seem impossible to find.
This place has been out of stock since I can remember. I also bought humbucker parts from them and they were so low quality I had to return it all, so I'm not convinced this would be a good solution even it it was in stock. Luckily these pickups have less parts and potentially less fitting issues. http://www.guitarpartsusa.com/Item/PROD549
GFS sells pickups at $30/per and you'd have to rip them apart and rewind them. As far as I know that's the easier way to go. Pro-Tube Lipstick Guitar Pickups
They also have Chinese ones on eBay for around $11/per you could rip apart and rewind. I'm just not sure if they fit a strat (or anything for that matter)
I would love to see a response where where we could get parts to do lipstick tubes at strat size. I know people who would love it if I could make them some!

Yeah, I tried to contact the guitar parts USA people to see if they might be getting any new stock - but (as yet) no response.
Mojotone makes these type of pickups, but apparently is unable to sell the parts - a bummer, but completely understandable.
I also saw the GFS offerings. I think a more cost effective option, though, would be to use the Chinese ones available on ebay. For $10 or $11 you can get one delivered to your door. They are the longer Danelectro size. But I think you should be able to cut down the tube and the base to make the appropriate size.

I had some really nice ones a couple years back from Seymour Duncan's custom shop, but ended up selling them to a guitar maker friend for one of his builds when I parted out the Strat they were in. I don't know of anyone selling parts for those though....
These would do practically the same thing without the tube.
IMO they are much more practical. Strat Blade Flatwork Set
Not as shiney and pretty, but should be a much better pickup!
Put some shiney chrome looking foil, formica, or pearl Pickguard material on top and call it good.

I've bought Chinese mudbucker bass pickups to use for parts. The price is good, and the shipping is usually free. They actually ship pretty quickly.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein
