Coil wire in Europe

Hey there,

I'm having a hard time finding a proper wire supplier here in Europe, who has formvar and PE.
I have a supplier of magnets of any kinds fixed, as well as i have most of the hardware/fiberboard/plastic pieces sorted.

All the places i can find has only got Poly wire, except for a place or two where they sell the other 2 for roughly 55 USD for 8oz

I'd prefer it to be in europe, since Denmark has an import fee of 30 USD + 25% of the imported value...

Or a company in the US who doesn't charge over 140 USD just for the shipping, like Mojo and other places does..

Does anyone know any suppliers who has this in Europe? I have been through numerous threads on this and other forums, including the "get started" ressources thread, but i don't seem to have much luck..

Are the two USA Ebay stores also wanting to charge you $140 for shipping?
They charge this amount so that they can get reliable tracking and know for sure if you are lying when you later tell them you didn't get your package. If you are willing to accept the loss of your investment if the package gets lost they will usually ship it via normal airmail and you can save a lot that way.

Hi Terry

The first link is Remington USA so not much use to us Europeans. The next link is Broccotts Ok wire but not formvar or plain enamel for the vintage fans. Larger quantities of wire can be had from wires.co.uk at a good price 6kg rolls. I did ask them if they could supply formvar or plain enamel. The reply was roughly that it was possible but they would have to order a fairly large amount in order to stock it. (so maybe with enough phone calls we might be able to cajole them into stocking it) I also got in touch with electrisola in Switzerland the nearest distributor and got no reply for an answer, although I must say they were kind enough to let me know every time they are shut for their holidays (great way of getting new customers!!!!) For us Europeans it's bite the bullet and pay hefty postage and customs duty taxes from the usual suppliers from the states Remington Mojo BAE unless anyone knows another source in Europe

According to the Elektrisola website they have a presence all over Europe.

Does Electrisola sell other than Poly? I seem to find only poly when looking through their website..

How many people from Europe are actually winding on this forum? Because then it could be worth it if we made a big order a few people together from the US to save on the shipping and all the other expenses..

Elektrisola makes most of the wire used here in the US.
Including Poly, HFV, and PE.
In the US the Main Supplier of PE is MWS,

Andrew, if You were not a vintage fan, i would suggest Kupferlackdraht - Sauter-Transformatoren

I must admit having difficulties to hear the effect of different isolations on the sound. Maybe i'm too old...

I get a much better deal from wires.co.uk with their 6 kg rolls. It's just a bit of hassle carrying them as hand luggage on the plane. For normal poly wire their wire is good. With broccotts I have had one bad roll which snagged but cleared itself eventually. Otherwise the vintage stuff from the usual USA suppliers (the shipping and duty is a killer) A good scource for European Alnico humbucker bars at a good price would interest me, maybe Lyking has a scource ?

About a year ago I had a conversation with Diane at MWS and she was kind enough to calculate the shipping rates to Europe (Slovenia) for 10lbs.

UPSP = $59.95
DHL Air = $287.73
Fed Ex Int'l Priority = $166.55
