  • Bridge Tele pickup bottom plate insulation

    Hello,
I noted that in many cases the bottom plate is insulated from magnets (for example in a Texas Special I've repaired).
What is your experience and advice? Insulated or not, and in case the most appropriate insulator.
    Thanks!

I earth the base plate on mine and where possible I also make sure they in contact with the magnets. it seems to make the pickup a little less prone to mains hum

Fender used a piece of masking tape between the magnets and tthe baseplate.
They probably did that for microphonics.
I use the tape, when potting rewinds, I leave it off on new pickups.
I run the 3 screws down, then pot, that keeps everything stationary while potting.
If the bottom forbon is not exactly flat, I slightly bend the metal baseplate to match before potting.
Leave the skinned end of the black hookup wire long enough, to bend over and solder to the baseplate for ground at the start lead.
