I was thinking about making some 42 and 43 coils and mismatching them. Would this work and still remain humbucking?

This a is topic that has be extensively discussed here. Search for "offset coils" and see what you can find. The short answers are yes and yes. To get full humbucking the coils need to match closely in turns*area and core permeability. -
