my thoughts: i have never been a fan of PRS pickups, in fact i have never heard a good one (or maybe they just not to my taste, they sound so generic)

most good pickup makers use reputable suppliers and select their components carefully, then it comes down to how the pickup is made and the tonal signature that you build into it
what wire and components you use, (as long as they are good quality), good building practices, and a good ear for tone give great results

PRS may have good components, but it beats me how their pickups can be so lame

Sounds like a sales pitch. It would be interesting to dig and see how accurate the claim is. I guess I shouldn't be so skeptical, but after the PRS sinker wood crap a year ago, I wouldn't put any sales tactics past them.

Paul has that shit grin on his face practically the whole time. What a huge steaming load of crap that was. The PRS nuts eat it up and get their fat wallets out for more.
I bet anyone could buy that wire from Bridgeport any day of the week but it wouldn't come dipped in the magic shit sauce that smells all the way to the west coast.

so what if he is using wire drawn from the original machine. the plain enamel coating will never the same as the components used in the old days are no longer used and many have been banned due to their toxicity. in turn, the sonic properties of the wire he is using is not the same as original Gibson wire. he may as well have bought wire from Remington or electrisola et al.. but of course then he would not have something to hype about.

it pisses me off when I get customers wanting to know every detail of what goes into my pickups, thinking that they have suddenly become experts by listening and reading all the marketing hype that's out there. there is too much hype and misinformation out there, and too many guitarists believe it, just because its in print in an ad or a forum or on youtube. the same goes with pots, wire, capacitors etc etc

It has been a major part of this market for a very long time. It was in effect when I started in the late 80's. It has just continued. The internet has created more misinformation and hype. I assumed it would straighten things out, but I was wrong. Not much you can do about it.
