  • Custom bobbins and spacer bars

Need a chinese (?) manufacturer to make wider spacing bobbins in 6, 7 and 8 string format. Basically just a standard bobbin, only longer, and possibly 1mm taller. Also, spacer bars to match.

I understand rough costs involved in making molds, and we need thousands of bobbins.

    Recommendations?
    Regards,
    Perry

having worked in the plastics/packaging industry.... the best way forward is to get a toolmaker locally to you to liaise with a chinese die maker and have the the mould made. more often than not, these tools need to be cleaned up, before they are suitable for production. you can then have them made locally by a moulder who can run the bobbins off in whatever batches needed.

i have a toolmaker here in aus who also has multiple lines of injection moulding machines and is able to do everything in-house. you may be able to find someone similar where you are

you will save in delays and logistics costs once you have the mould up and running, and can call orders off at shorter notice

Never did business with'em personally, but they've been around for a long time, so chances are, something good must come out of them.

Just cover your eyes when looking at their website... it must be one of the worst-looking-ever!

At my day job we have parts made all over the world. Some piece parts made in Asia. Some machining in Japan. For injection molded plastic parts we ended up with something local. We're talking about quantities around 1000 / year. It didn't make sense to go overseas unless we were looking at much high volumes than that. And then, as mr fab suggests, we would probably work with a local liaison to get the molds right before moving actual production to Asia.

I'd suggest looking in Perth for what you need. While you're at it, make up some good quality mini-humbucker bobbins. I could use a few.

            Perry,

If you're willing to make them I'm sure there are folks around here who'd be thrilled to buy them off you.

Daeil in S Korea is the other giant in pickup parts so you might inquire with them: Daeil Parts for Musical Instrument It's a better website I promise.

Well they seem to have bobbins covered, anyone have a source for nicer covers? Addiction used to have some really nice shapes but every time I ask about them, they say they have none. Mojo covers are ok, but not quite the shape I really want.
