Of the insulation types typically available on 38-45 gauge wire, what is the thickest available and a good source for it?

Triple and quadruple dipped would be the thickest. I've never see it but that isn't saying much. Shop for "Heavy" which is double dipped as in HPN or heavy poly/nylon or HFV aka heavy form-var.
