Could be handy for testing different magnet types and arrangements prior to winding, saving on wire and materials from wasted winding efforts.
As far as i know the Essex Company is now getting into this Spoolless Coil field.
I`m still trying to figure out how the process of making these coils is achieved.

They wind bondable magnet wire on a form, bond the wire, then remove the solidified coil from the form. Bonding is achieved by heat and/or a solvent dunk (usually alcohol).

Thats kind of like the Burns Tri-Sonic air coils, except those were wound on a former, then taped/tied together, and then the former is retracted from the inside, and the coil is stuffed in a metal container with a magnet.

Are those air coils? I thought they had a ceramic magnet in the middle of the coil and a steel baseplate? Of course a ceramic magnet core is practically an aircore.

My friend has a set of the Duncan Brain May pickups. We haven't opened them up though.

I'm planning on making a Red Special, and was going to make my own Tri-Sonics.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein
