  • Room Eq Wizard - impedance

Hi, can one use REW's (Room Eq Wizard) speaker impedance measurement procedure to measure guitar pickups? Seems like a easy way to find a pickups resonant peak. Is it safe to drive the pickup's coil with a headphone amplifyer?

    regards

You will not hurt the pickup with a headphone amplifier. Since the pickup impedance is much higher than a speaker impedance, you want to avoid really low value sense resistors. I use 1K in my technique, but you might need a higher value with that set up.

Thank you, it seems to work, sort of.
Room Eq Wizard apparently refuses to display impedances over 1000ohm. I tried using a 9,7kOhm sense resistor while telling REW that it is only 212 Ohm, that way I can see the curve and RP although the stated ohm's are wrong. I would think the frequencies would still be correct?

Measuring my 1996 Fender USA b-bender Telecaster, I was surprised that the neck pickup and bridge pickup showed a similar RP (measured from the guitar output jack, all controls on 10), I assumed the bridge would be hotter and with a lower RP.
