    Hi Andrew,

We are so excited that our friends at Stewmac are distributing some of our Mojotone products! I feel like all of this hard work is finally starting to pay off!

Glad to hear that the less than stellar Shatten winder is finally off the menu.

Last time I taught a pickup making class at roberto venn they had a couple mojotone winders along with the schattens we had been using and the winder I designed. The mojos were pretty nice. Probably taught a couple hundred people to wind over the last several years so i have seen the schattens used alot and they are ok for someone making a handful of pickups once in a while but having a little more speed and torque is really important if you are going to do more than an occasional coil. having the winder slow down to almost a "crawl" when you tension the wire......

The only way I have been able to use my Schatten for the past 10 years is because I disconnected the motor's belt and chucked a DeWalt variable speed drill to the left axle. It was supposed to be a temporary fix, but it works great. Plenty of speed and torque!

With the original motor I could stop it running if I pinched the wire hard enough!

yeah we had a few of the motors burn up and replaced them. A drill chucked onto the spindle Very practicle!

At the time those were the only hobby winders available and they do work but time marches on- thats why I designed the winder in my book the way I did, I have several that are still running 20 years later that have had over a million turns on them and they are still running great.
WSC gave me a prototype winder they made about a year ago- its really sweet but they havent done anything with it yet.

I thought the motor went bad, and they sent me a new one.. or had me buy a new one. Only it wasn't the motor, it was the speed controller board. At this point I had been using the winder about 4 years I think.

My plan was to replace the motor and speed control. But I had pickups to wind. So I did the drill trick. I liked it so much I just left it that way. Schatten wanted me to send them the winder! I had a couple of, um, interesting conversations with him on the phone. He said no one could build a winder like this until CNC was invented for the pulleys... ... only these are off the shelf aluminum pulleys. At that point I figured I'd cut my loses and just use the drill until I make a new winder.
