  • Leesona pitch selection

Does anyone know how the pitch was selected on the Leesonas? Obviously they didn't have computers to automaticaly set the spacing and lay the wire accordingly. I take it that pitch was manually adjusted.

Someone can tell me if I am wrong bUT this is about the same age as my old machine and thats interchangeable gears and a leadscrew. Same system as for screwcutting on a lathe apart from the auto reverse.

      Calling JGundry

      Jon,

I have a feeling that you've studied this machine and your machine is similar in design to the Leesona. Can you enlighten us?

          Steve,

JGundry who is a member here also has a machine that has characteristics of the old machines.

              Leesona

It used worm gears, all the old winders back when used different gear sets to set the turns per layer.

Did they vary the pitch throughout the winding of a bobbin or did they just set the pitch and run with it...in other words...use only one pitch (spacing) on the bobbin.

The turn per layer count is constant through the entire wind. The traverse and bobbin rotation are synched so the turn per layer count is the same no matter what speed the machine is running at.
They don't make them like they used to... We do.
